I believe Beagle relies on Evolution metafiles for mail searching, so
you'd have to use Evolution to create a local account and point it to
your mbox file. The problem is if you, like me, don't care for
Evolution, because you'd need to start Evolution and click the
appropriate folder for Beagle to update the index.
Don't know 'bout latex.
