install ubuntu without CD-rom drive?

Matt,  did you ever get this to work?  I have a Toshiba Portege 3110ct
also, and have concerns about trying to get Ubuntu loaded onto it. 
Mine was given to me with Windows NT loaded, but I wasn't given a
userid or password so that OS was basically unusable for me.  Ubuntu
would be perfect if I could get it loaded *AND* it would recognize the
CD-ROM drive.  I haven't tried the suggestions already posted here yet;
I haven't had time.



If anybody else has any suggestions or comments, they would be
appreciated.
