It depends on what you mean by "windows maximising after I click on
firefox".  If you have changed to another virtual dersktop, the windows
that were open will all return to the same size they were on the
original virtual desktop, as the firefox click will simply return you
to that desktop.  I don't know if it is the same with the "Show
desktop" icon as I don't have it, but it sounds as if it is doing the
same thing.

What you could do if you want to just return to one window instead of
all that are open is:-
Having changed to a new empty virtual desktop (eg 2) from vd1, right
click on the task bar in the firefox box and move just that to the
desktop you are now on, leaving all the other open windows on vd1.  I
know that works as I've just tried it.
