Thanks for all the answers.
As I said in my previous reply I normally look at alcarte for the
command, usually to make a launcher for the panel.
The other reason I need to know is when I install programs to try out
and they don't create a menu entry.
The solutions provided by various people have enabled me to run quite a
few programs that I thought had failed to install.
It would be nice if synaptic told you the command required when it isn't
the same as the package name. Any body else think it might be useful
to file this as a 'bug'?
