Huh? When was the last time you installed Windows. It took me SIX hours,
the last time I did it - and in the end I scrapped the previous version of
Windows and did a clean install. Ubuntu took 20 minutes and left me with a
working dual-boot with XP.

Exactly the way it works when you install programs from the stock
repositories. If you install 3rd party software not packaged for Ubuntu,
you can hardly blame Ubuntu if it doesn't properly add itself to your
menus.

As for iptraf, you could try filing a bug report - but since it's an
admin-only, curses-based program, I suspect the author doesn't think it
belongs in the menus.

If you install any Gnome or KDE app, you certainly will see it in the menus.
