What happens when you just plug in the microphone to the computer?
Does it not work? I've had very good luck with USB items lately. I
recently bought a Logitech USB headset for voice calls and it just
worked. When I plugged it in, I just had more choices under
Preferences/Sound. The problem may be simpler than you think.
