a good hex editor

Hmm yes, I too was surprised that there were no "just works" hex editor
in Linux. In the end I have settled for "khexedit".
It's for KDE so doesn't integrate with Gnome very well unfortunately,
but short having much choice, and given that I use it only
occasionally, well, I can live with it.
