> hda5 would be /swap
> hda6 would be /home -> and both this and /swap are inside the same ext partition as /root.
hda[1-4] are never "inside" an extended partition. Logicals inside an
extended begin at 5. So if all except /boot are logicals, then you would
have hda1, hda5, hda6 & hda7.
> Now, if I wanted to install Edgy, would that could be in any partition, and not a primary one, because of this /boot. Is that correct?
Where you might choose to install edgy later is not dependent on anything
you have proposed to do currently. Things can get rather complicated if you
keep multiple /boot partitions. Better to keep /boot directories on /
partitions other than the first installed.
So, add edgy later on a new hda8. It can share the hda7 /home. To keep
settings from different desktop versions from interfering with each other,
use different uid for each distro's primary user login. Set umask to 002
instead of 022 to make sharing other files easier, and ln the commonly used
directories among the different uid's homes.
> And when I go to install 6.06 will it understand or will I specifically have to tell it that something goes in the boot area and the rest in /?
Use the alternate CD, manually select partitioning, and set the install
target / and any other partitions you want mounted as you prefer. If 6.06 is
the first to get installed on the HD, set the separate /boot partition among
them.
