There is a "beta" available of the new version of Skype for Linux
(version 1.3); and that one does work with ALSA, and therefore does not
suffer from this sound driver locking problem.
I dont remember right now if it will use ALSA by default or if you have
to change it manually.
I have used this "Skype 1.3 Beta" with no problems at all with both
Dapper and Edgy.
