Automount with 2.6.18

Hi
I'm running Dapper and need some of the drivers in 2.6.18. The system
works quite well with the vanilla kernel, but unfortunatly the
automatic mounting of usb-devices stopped working (works fine with
2.6.17.13).
I know some things changed in the newer kernels, but I don't really
want to backport the drivers I need...
Running pmount manually works, but it would be nice to get that "plug
'n play" feeling back, especially since it uses the drive-labels as
the mount-point under /media/. 
Is there any way to get automount working with 2.6.18 and later in
Dapper?
