It's possible that the camera is being recognized, but not
automatically mounted. I have that issue with one of our digital
cameras. I was, however, able to see the camera when I opened
Places/Computer. It showed up as an unmounted USB drive in the
left-hand pane. Once I double-clicked on it, the drive mounts and I'm
able to get the photos off. Try that?
