32 Ubuntu on 64 bit AMD CPU, how ?

32bit apps should run at about the same speed on a 64bit CPU, since
they usually don't take advantage of the extra built-in registers and
additional CPU instructions. In my own experience, the same
application compiled for 64bits usually performs marginally better (I
mean, don't expect a twofold increase in performance).
