you should be able to uninstall using:
sudo /usr/bin/vmware-uninstall.pl

if that doesn't work, try:
sudo /usr/local/bin/vmware-uninstall.pl

if you want to try reconfiguring vmware use:
sudo /usr/local/bin/vmware-config.plsudo
or
sudo /usr/local/bin/vmware-config.pl

To be honest I can't really begin to guess what your problem might be
without more information on your networking situation. It doesn't seem
likely that vmware is causing the problems but perhaps some firewalling.
I don't know though. Just wish you good luck!
