Hibernate quit working

Using Ubuntu v6.06, when I click on the red power-down button and select
hibernate, my system no longer hibernates. The screen goes blank but the
system stays powered up and locked up. If I manually power down and re-boot
it just re-boots normally and does not restore anything.

I think it is related to the fact that I changed monitors (to a Megavision
17" flat panel). Is there a way to get it to recognize the new monitor (or
ignore the monitor) so it can hibernate. I quickly got addicted to that
feature and would like to have it back :)
