You didn't say what version of ubuntu you have, hopefully it's the 6.06
or newer and it's the desktop version. If you have the desktop version
you should be able to run it off the CD to test your hardware. Just put
the CD in a bootable CD drive and turn on the computer at the install or
start ubuntu just hit enter. That should bring you to the desktop for a
test drive. If you decide to install ubuntu just click the install icon
and follow the instructions as they pop up on the screen. Oh yes you can
duel boot if you wish.
