HPET is the High Performance Event Timer (I think it's "event" but I've not
confirmed it)... Basically it's a high-resolution clock which can be used to
drive the RTC (Real Time Clock). This is why it is switched it off on some
BIOS's which suffer from the clock running far too fast and other such weird
problems.

So if anyone has an idea how to : make this hpet stuff work, or to make

Well, that's me pretty much out of the usual suspects for booting problems.

You have been asked in your bug-report to try running with the latest
kernel, which it doesn't appear that you have done yet. I would try updating
to the latest kernel, or at the very least reading the changelogs for the
newer kernels to see if there's anything mentioning MSI motherboards and
flaky timers.

Also, you are much more likely to get a response from the kernel devs if you
are running a recent kernel - no-one is going to try to investigate your
problem if it's from an older kernel and the bug may have already been
corrected.

Are you able to download a newer kernel or is that an issue for you?
