Dapper -> Edgy upgrade story

I upgraded from Dapper to Edgy yesterday. I thought someone might find
this interesting:
0) make about 1.5 gigs of free disk space
1) sudo update-manager -c -d
2) 7-8 hours of downloading at 30 kb/s (I've a 1 Mbit/s net connection,
but the ubuntu archive was slow that day)
3) I hit bug https://launchpad.net/bugs/62923
Scary messages about not being able to install the kernel, but
apparently harmless.
4) After the upgrade completed/aborted I had to repeat the
distribution upgrade with update-manager three more times, to
upgrade a few packages that were left out (xorg input drivers,
including the synaptic one, a bunch of python modules that seem to
be renamed from python2.4-foo to python-foo).
5) After that 4 packages were left not upgraded (tomboy,
vmware-player, gmpc, pymacs). I had to either apt-get remove them
(pymacs), or upgrade them manually with apt-get install.
6) I had to apt-get install bzr, bzrtools and xchat because the
upgrade removed them for unknown reasons.
(Re xchat: I had both xchat and xchat-gnome; xchat-gnome was left
alone and is, in general, nicer than xchat.)
7) Reboot
8) The system came up successfully. The boot splash was misaligned on
my external LCD, crappy phone pictures here:

9) /bin/sh is now no longer bash, and my ~/.gnomerc tried to source
~/.bash_profile, which sourced ~/.bashrc, which failed with syntax
errors. Can't log in.
10) logged in on a console, fixed my ~/.gnomerc.
11) logged into X. Nice login sound!
12) tomboy imported two ancient sticky notes, then crashed in a few
minutes, then restarted.
13) Network applet wifi strenght icon is insane:
https://launchpad.net/bugs/57626
Found a workaround.
14) xchat-gnome no longer lets me open browser windows by clicking on
highlighted URLs on the channel title bar.
