Help - running into trouble updating Xubuntu

Thanks, but I still got the problems under X. Here's the solution:

The problem I had was consistently that I couldn't update the x11-common
package.

The reason was that it conflicted with another package, called xli,
in universe.

The solution was to disable universe and multiverse while upgrading.

So, here's a tip: BEFORE DOING A DIST-UPGRADE, DISABLE UNIVERSE AND
MULTIVERSE REPOSITORIES
(and all unofficial repositories, but that goes without saying).
