dist-upgrade to dapper? (not edgy)

In short, don't. Using the Update Manager application is much safer
because its algorithms are tuned to this specific upgrade*. This link

If you really want to upgrade by changing sources.list and running
dist-upgrade manually, you should read the above link especially
carefully and follow -exactly- what it says. 
However, contrary to the information given there, I'd recommend using
aptitude instead of apt-get since it is much better at dependency
resolution. (The upgrade notes for Dapper>Edgy recommend it now too.)


* There was a long discussion recently on the sounder list where the
Ubuntu folks confirmed that using Update Manager is the officially
recommended way.
