What kind of tunnel do you want to use?

At Layer 2, you can use L2TP to set up a tunnel.
At Layer 3, you can use IPSec (most operating systems have built-in
support for IPSec), GRE, IP-over-IP.
At Layer 7, you can use a SSL tunnel (ssltunnel or stunnel), a HTTP
tunnel or even (httptunnel) a SSH tunnel (OpenSSH)
