Oh dear. That's not a good sign at all. How old is this drive?
Maybe time to backup your data and reformat (buy/borrow a drive -
afterall, how much is your data worth? Nothing? Fine....then why are
we having this discussion?!). FWIW, if this is a dual-boot system
and you use the FAT32 drive to share data between Ubuntu and Windows,
you may get better milage from installing an ext2 driver in Windows
and formatting it as ext2/3:

I've used this heavily in the past without a hitch, but as always,
