High speed connection

  That depends. Cable or DSL ? Cable is USUALLY simple, dhcp takes care of it...DSL USUALLY
requires you to install software to handle it. 
sudo apt-get install apt-utils
sudo apt-cache search dsl

will get you software related to handling DSL.
