If you haven't all ready tried, have the keyboard connected to the laptop when you power it on,otherwise try a normal USB keyboard.

Subject: using an external keyboard

I want to disable the onboard keyboard on my laptop and only an
external ps/2-keyboard. The keyboard is connected via an adapter to
one of the usb-ports on the laptop. Edgy doesn't detect it
automatically, and lsusb shows me the same information no matter if I
have the keyboard connected or not..

Any help or pointers to where I can find more information would be appreciated!

Regards,
Martin
