Basically you follow the RestrictedFormats page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

Then go here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DVDShrink?highlight=%28dvdshrink%29

If you happen to run Edgy, just install wine via apt-get (Ubuntu
version) since currently WineHQ does not offer a Edgy package.

I've been using this setup here and it works very well. No
coasters. Basically I use dvdshrink to burn to a .ISO file and then
use K3b tp burn the DVD.

For music CDs I use K3b for copying, and KAudioCreater to rip them
in .OGG format to the computer. (it also does MP3 and such)
