Why Rhythmbox instead of Banshee?

Did I miss something? Was there discussion of replacing Rhythmnbox with
Banshee in Edgy?

Not knowing if such discussion previously existed all I can say is.
Rhythmnbox is part of GNOME. Banshee isn't.

Of course Epiphany is part of GNOME and Firefox isn't. But who said this
 had to be logical? ;-)

Oh and if you want to try out Banshee:

	$ sudo apt-get install banshee

should do the trick.
