problems with LTSP implementation

.
I wasn't sure if this should go in Edubuntu mailing lists or not (since I"M not specifically using edubuntu and I saw ltsp threads in both mailing lists) so I hope it will be excused if this is the wrong list.
So here's my current situation. I have installed ubuntu's ltsp on my machine and copied it to the server. My problem comes from the fact that ubuntu's ltsp seems a lot harder to follow through and implments things differently then the original LTSP does.
The first problem is that I can't figure out how to add screen scripts. I copied my lts.conf from the 4.2 implementation and it doens't run my screen.d scripts (the polling script is set to tell me it's running). Furthermore, since it seems like Ubuntu's ltsp doesn't use screen scripts (at least like LTSP does) I can't figure out a way to tell it to indirect to a machine. I assume this has to do that Ubuntu's implmentation is using ssh (I think this is the case after reading the wiki at least) but is there a way to change that?
Another problem I have is that I copied the lts.conf from my old implementation to here. The conf is as follows:
[Default]
SERVER = 132.170.203.xx
XDM_SERVER = 132.170.200.xx
DNS_SERVER = 132.170.200.xx
X_MOUSE_PROTOCOL = "IMPS/2"
X_MOUSE_DEVICE = "/dev/psaux"
X_MOUSE_BUTTONS = 3
SCREEN_01 = startx
SCREEN_02 = shell
SCREEN_05 = poll
X4_MODULE_01 = glx
X4_MODULE_02 = GLcore
X4_MODULE_03 = dri
What happens is that when it nfs mounts and boots, X comes up with the login screen for the correct server, the mouse can move but the keyboard is totally unresponsive (even num lock doesn't do anything). The keyboard is fully functional during bootup but just stops once X loads. Can anyone give me any clues as to why this happens and how to fix it?
Those are the two main problems that I am having with Ubuntu's LTSP and if anyone can shed some light on them I would be much appreciative.
