Hi Avraham,
cd /(the directory you want) will take you to that directory
cd on it's own should take you back to your home directory
e.g.

squareyes at ubuntuhere:~$ cd /etc/
squareyes at ubuntuhere:/etc$ cd
squareyes at ubuntuhere:~$
