annoying gnome glitches

Hi group,

I have two annoying gnome problems.

1. the cursor changes color, seemingly at random, from
white to black. When it's black it's hard to see
against a dark background. I checked the mouse config
applet but nothing there about cursor color.

2. The first time I start xmms, after it opens, a
window pops open telling me to use the right plugin. I
close the window and click the start button on the
player and now it works.

Anybody else have similar problems?
