Blah. Silly quote tag

After downloading and researching many packages, for install,
I have come to realize that all the packages for the most part,
the one NOT in the Ubuntu realm are not current.

xmcd (2.6-17) Is one that comes to mind,
so, how does one get the current version (3.3.2) (which is not listed)
and have the simple install (aka: synaptic installer)?

please I'm not a command line guru.

Thanks in Advance.
Rich

Every release, which means around every six months, Ubuntu's packages
are synchronised with Debian's. I've just had a look, this package
hasn't been updated by it's Debian maintainer for a very long time.
Xmcd package is maintained by Adrian Bridgett <bridgett at debian.org>
(you can find this information by looking at the package properties in
Synaptic). You might want to get in contact with him and ask him if he
can make a new Debian package. Then it might be in the next version of
Ubuntu (and Debian).

Otherwise, you can download the latest version here:
http://tinyurl.com/ozmqx
and the page also has instructions about how to install it. Which I
haven't tried... but just give it your best shot. If it doesn't work,
there are plenty of other CD playing programs!
