Graphics driver problem in ubuntu 5.10

Hi,

    i am using ubuntu for the past 6 months,

my system configuration,

64bit AMD with via8239 motherboard

my problem is whenever i switch to via driver, i am not able to see
the display but i am able to hear the sound. so i am using vesa
driver.  please tell me how to use via driver. i have modified the
refresh rate bu no use.
