Packages ! get the current ones???

Unfortunatelly, there is no easy way around this. The package
maintainers are very busy and there's a lot of open-source software out
there to be theoretically maintained. So it can just become
overwhelming.

So, for such cases, synaptic just can't help and I really don't think
there is anotrher way than just installing them with dpkg -i from the
console. Sometimes, even compiling them.

You can contribute to making this situation just a little better, by
trying to be a maintainer yourself for a package of your choosing. Or
more packages :)
