Need some Info on Ubuntu AMD distro ???

Okay, now I want to install Ubuntu on my laptop,
its a Gateway MX7525, it has a AMD Athlon 64 Mobile Processor
a ATI X600 vid, etc..etc.. And all the other cool stuff.

Q. Would ubuntu AMD 64bit Distro work on this laptop??? ( YES OR NO )
please no hacks... (newbie at large)


Second

Q. There is a second partiton on the C drive, which contain the windows 
drives,
I don't want to erase that partiton (just in case) of WHAT THE 
*^%%$$@@** happens.
I can at least re-install Windozzzzzz Xpeeee.
