You beat me to the punch.  Only I'd add that I see lots of people in this
very mailing list who routinely  deride those who don't want to use the
terminal.  So people are not only being told "it's more linuxy" to use the
terminal, they're actively sneered at when they don't want to.

Here would be a way to stay on-message: if you don't want people to use the
terminal because it's "dangerous" -- don't tell people that's what they
should do.  And if you want people to use the terminal, don't make it like
clipping your fingernails with a chainsaw.

It's one or the other, people.

Well, that's pretty simple.  Spyware/adware/etc. go out of their way to be
easy to install.  Usually, if you're using IE without security set up right,
it's a simple "Yes" click away.

When spyware/adware/other malware arrives on Linux you'll see the
easiest-to-install applications you've ever seen on a UNIX.  Because the
malware writers will go out of their way to be user friendly.

Pity the people who make the actual software users need to use don't have
that attitude.  ;-)
