Eyestrain relief possible on ubuntu?

I've downloaded the theme to /tmp, and found /home/erik/Desktop, but
maybe that's not what you meant, so I briefly opened a GUI File Browser,
and used that to "drag & drop".

But, firefox and openoffice still have high-beam white backgrounds! Only
the frilly bits around the windows changed. 8-((

So the hunt for eyestrain relief goes on. (I still haven't found the
brightness control on my laptop. ;-)

I'll see if new google incantations can unearth a fix. Meanwhile, any
hint would be a balm to my sore eyes. (At least I can use mutt for mail.
