Hibernation issue (Was working then I broke it by removing a package )

Out of the box Ubuntu(Breezy) had hibernation and suspension support
for my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 6000.

Unfortunately, the battery life of the machine was basically an hour
less than what I had while running Windows. I started looking for
solutions to this all over the net. I looked through several posts on
the Ubuntu forums and finally came upon a post that mentioned removing
the package laptop-mode and replacing it with laptop-mode-tools for
more battery life.

I tried this, and in the process, I ended up killing my hibernation
support, etc. I've since removed laptop-mode-tools, reinstalled
laptop-mode, but I still don't have the ability to hibernate or
suspend (They are completely gone from the Gnome logout menu).

I've looked through the forums, done some googling, read what I could
in docs here and there and I have no idea how to get back what I once
had.

The mailing list is my final effort. Does anyone know what I need to
do or what packages I need to reinstall to get my hibernation support
back? It worked on the initial install so I'm fairly convinced that
it is just a few packages or maybe config files that I have to modify
to get it back.

Thanks in advance,
