Java install

I'm new to Debian-type distros & 64-bit CPUs but not Linux...
 
 Using an AMD64 Athlon, Kubuntu 5.10, 32-bit, and trying to install java runtime ...both the Sun & Blackdown 64-bit versions fail to install....
 
 Error message from Sun is :

 Error messages from Blackdown failure are much more extensive.
 
 Am I missing a package???....any help/info most appreciated.
