I did have a pretty good look at the list and found that some things were
[apparently] installed under a similar name --if not the same name w/a
different version#. Some were not.

Yesterday I chrooted into Breezy from Dapper to see if things would work okay,
and everything went pretty well... but there were a couple complaints.
Consequently, I pulled out the backup & tried it again (since I had saved all
the pkgs) from Breezy. I moved the Dapper sources.list, listed above, to
Breezy, executed 'apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade' and found that
10.4MB+/- was d/l b-4 the upgrade began, as well as a few more pkgs which
were to be removed (hence, my OP). Also, there were no problems like the two
I had when chrooted to Breezy.

Now that the upgrade is complete, the bad news is that the PCMCIA adapter
containing my flashdisk will not mount: '/dev/hde1 is not a valid block
device'. I rebooted using the previous kernel and the flashdisk
mounted ...but there was no sound. When I attempted the mount w/default
kernel I got:
Mar 20 11:29:25 kubuntu kernel: [4294770.252000] ide: failed opcode was: 0xec
Mar 20 11:29:25 kubuntu kernel:
[4294770.262000] /dev/ide/host2/bus0/target0/lun0: p1
Mar 20 11:29:25 kubuntu kernel:
[4294770.270000] /dev/ide/host2/bus0/target0/lun0: p1

I'm afraid I do not understand this ...unless the kernel is missing some
modules or wasn't compiled the same as previous kernels. A virgin
installation of the 13MAR06 daily build ...supplemented by an 'apt-get
update; apt-get dist-upgrade' did not have the same problem w/PCMCIA.

Upon boot, the logs show:

I think I need a 2nd pair of eyes, here.
