mutt + thunderbird

Well, the  easy way for your problem is used servers. I have this setup
for my pc: I have my mail in a local IMAP server. This server will be
transparent for mutt, thunderbird, kmail or whatever you want that
supports IMAP. Second, if you want to have all your contacts in all
clients, you have to use an LDAP server. With this you can access your
contacts from any client that supports LDAP servers.
