I *finally* have something a little more to report. The kernel finally
spilled its guts about the drive in question after three or four tries to get
a CD to mount, though I have no idea what all that data means. I kept
getting the 'No medium found' error. Even though I got the contents on the
first try, it wouldn't overwrite. I was using a brand new DVD-RW disc.

Something's busted. I used to be able to write DVD-RWs consistently.
Suddenly it's b0rked. Since I've updated twice and didn't have any trouble
b-4 that, I suspect an update. It's the logical choice. Guess I'll muck
around w/Dapper, for awhile. Couldn't be any worse... I have yet to apply
any updates.
