amd64 install hangs

i have an HP dv8135nr and for some reason the amd64 install cd hangs
at boot up before i even get into the setup.  the 32bit install cd
works fine.  i have downloaded two different iso's from two different
mirrors and it still doesnt work.  this machine has a turion64 mobile
cpu in it.  are there command args that i can pass to the kernel or
setup at boot to maybe get this thing to boot? there really wasnt
anything i could see from the text at the boot prompt.  i ran ubuntu
on my old laptop with great success and was my first choice for this
new one, but i really want to make use of that 64bit cpu.....then i
have to figure out how to get that xpresss 200M video card to work ;-)
