I've seen this one before....

I dismissed the X errors and logged in at a command line. Once in:


sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf


I located the the 'display' portion and changed 'driver=i810' to 
'driver=vesa', saved the xorg.conf and could then start X using...  startx
