Ahem I see your point :) I think I am getting confused between back ports and
extras. The following appeared to allow me access to a ton of usefull
packages but since I am now running dapper I no longer use it.

## breezy-extras - the most widely used source for packages not includded in
Ubuntu
## no guarantees on working - not enabled by default
deb http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/ubuntu-backports/ breezy-extras main
universe multiverse restricted

I am new to the testing (bleeding edge) but I seem to be having problems
getting some packages that I need, as an isolated problem, from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats I quote ...

or, if you are using Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake):
  sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
  sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-gl
  sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
  sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
  sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
  sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
  sudo apt-get install libxine-extracodecs
  sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
  sudo apt-get install lame
  sudo apt-get install faad
  sudo apt-get install sox
  sudo apt-get install mjpegtools
  sudo apt-get install libxine-main1

I cannot apt-get a whole bunch of these, to pick a couple of instances ...

oot at dave-comp:/etc/apt# apt-get install faad
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package faad is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package faad has no installation candidate
root at dave-comp:/etc/apt#
root at dave-comp:/etc/apt# apt-get install libxine-extracodecs

I am unsure if I am not pointing at the correct repositeries or it is because
dapper is still testing and all will be fixed in time (am I jumping the
gun !)

My sources.list is ...

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

Which seemed to enable me download all sorts of packages like

root at dave-comp:~# apt-get install k3b-mp3

E: Couldn't find package k3b-mp3
