Gconf database reset after each reboot

Hi,
A while ago I started losing my gconf database after each reboot - say a
bunch of updates get installed (I'm using dapper) and update-notifier
asks for a reboot, after the reboot when I log in and all my settings
are gone - screen resolution wrong, no app launchers on the panels, no
evolution accounts, basically a full gconf reset. I started taking
backups of .gconf/%gconf-tree.xml before each reboot and hoped that some
new batch of updates will fix the problem, but no. I inspected the
database after the reboot, before logging in - everything is in place,
after the first login the database is reset. If I log out and overwrite
the db with a backup copy, then login again - everything's just fine.
File permissions on the db are 600, owned by me and my group.
This seems like a pretty severe bug so maybe someone could help me
figure it out before it lands in the stable release :]
