Are you setting up a 'remote printer' queue on your laptop, are are you
letting the laptop discover the queue on the gentoo box?

The 'correct' way of doing this is for the laptop to not have a driver
for the printer at all, it should generate postscript, send that to the
gentoo box, have the driver there turn it into printer code, and send it
to the printer. There are other ways, of course, but once it's working
that's the simplest.

Easiest approach would probably be to turn browsing on on both systems
and let the laptop autodiscover the printer.
