[Dapper] module in live CD works for NIC but install doesn't?

I logged on sing the latest Dapper LiveCD last night then mounted all
the right partitions and CHROOTed to the local install (because the
LIVECD version of via_rhine works on my PC).
I then apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade but to no improvement.

I wish I understood why the LIVECD version works but the Installed
version doesn't... Surely when I upgraded and installed the latest
kernel that _should have_ resolved the module problem.. shouldn't it
have?
