Changing dpkg behavior

That's not where I would've expected to find it, but I guess it makes 
sense... Because it worked. :-D

The two options I had to edit are: kopt and groot

kopt obviously defines kernel options (mine changed from sda3 to sda2). 
groot defines the root drive and partition number (groot=(hd0,1) on my 
server).
