Ubuntu media center?

Hi,

I've been thinking for a while about installing a macmini with Mac OS X as a media center to my new HD LCD TV and my stereo. But if it was possible to do with linux and some other hardware that would be great since I like linux.

What I want is:
- Quite cheap small good looking and very silent (most important!) computer
- Remote control
- Some kind of easy to use GUI for the remote (like apples front row)
- Of course support for my high definition tv via DVI or hdmi and analog sound ports of okey quality.

Is this possible or will I have to go with the macmini?
