Testing a microphone? Woo hoo! It works

Awhile ago I asked on the list how to test whether microphone 
input is working on this computer. Well, today I downloaded 
Skype, installed it, and used its test call service and -- to my 
surprise and delight -- the microphone worked! This is especially 
great news because I could never get it working under Windows. 
Woo hoo! Three cheers for Ubuntu! :-)
