I didn't take it personally - what makes you think so? But what he
wrote was just not true and sounded very much like FUD. Is it wrong
to call things by their names?

Yes, that was what he wrote. And it's plain wrong. You don't
accidentally type "-5<enter>". Sure, *could* happen - but in
the same way, the Ubuntu partition tools make it easy to wipe
your system, if you're not careful. I mean, you could easily
do "sudo fdisk /dev/hda<enter>o<enter>w<enter>", couldn't you?

I suppose you'd agree that it would be right to call Ubuntu
dangerous, wouldn't you? Well - I would not. IMO, this would
be stupid FUD.

> That's not FUD even

Yes, it is. It makes it sound, as if Gentoo's etc-update may make it
easy to hose the system, while the opposite is true. The FUD part
about this is, that it might be understood so, that Gentoo is prone
to overwrite configuration settings (like it was the case in SuSE 6.x).

Depends. If you've got solid facts, then it would be okay to complain
about the stability. But if the opposite of what you write is true, then
it would be correct if other people would say that you're spreading
FUD.

What attitude? To dislike FUD? Well, then I'm certainly guilty of
having a bad attitude, sorry about that.

But again: what he wrote was just not true. He was spreading FUD
about Gentoo (or rather about the etc-update tool of Gentoo). You've
got to pardon me, but if I hear FUD, I'll speak up - heck, I might even
say something if there's FUD against Windows.
