Installing 6.06 on an External USB Hard Drive

In theory, 6.06 should install on a USB drive and work out of the box. 
In practice, I haven't tried it, and haven't read any entries from 
anyone who tried. I know some people got this working in Breezy because

I think the feature was added to Dapper to make it even easier, but I 
can't find any documentation on it at the moment.
